The statue is engraved in Lion Pass – within the arched niche at the bottom of rock. Standing figure of the statue is like a human body, an artifact of walking stick or a small-bowled long-stemmed pipe. The statue wears a wavy hair, with two eardrops, upper body naked, wearing a thing which sags till ankle; its waist is tied around with skirt, with the skirt belt drooped to legs in between. A ring is hanged around its waist on the right side, with jewelry of leaf-shaped and card-shaped in the upper drop. It wears thigh boots, with both legs separated. Its left leg slightly bends to the left, his hands crossed in front of his chest, with a reel of bar-shaped in tail form leaned. The facial part of the statue is seriously damaged, its appearance not being recognized.
Words of “Persian people” are engraved in the statue niche on the right side.
In
terms of study on the “Persian people”, there are a great many
controversies. All viewpoints can be summed up as Brahman monk theory,
Persian people theory, Brahman theory, hunting god theory andVajrayana theory of upholding the constitution, etc.
Words of “Persian people” in the statue niche on the right side are engraved in a repaired manner, judged from the breaking relation between statue trail and inscription back and forth. While the time of inscription should be no later than the era in which Li Yuanyang has lived, namely Wanli period in Ming dynasty, for Li Yuanyang had ever mentioned that there are words of “Persian people” engraved in the cave in “Shibao Mountain Travelogue”. The reason why engraved words are “Persian people” is likely to be the similarity of the figure and dressing of the statue with the image of Persian people “wearing fabric, putting on thigh boot, leaning on a thing in hands” contained in the literature. However, some other people maintain that the statue’s appearance and dressing have no common with that of Persian people recorded in “New Book of Tang”, whereas truly similar to “Tianzhu is a cruel state in which Chinese people live in, or the Magha Tuo, Brahman in Japan..., all kings and ministers admires Jiyan, the spiral coil on top, the rest hair curled” recorded in Western Region in New Book of Tang. Therefore, the statue is Brahminfrom the Western regions.
What should be noted is that “Zhang Shengwen painting volume of Brahman” as-associated with grotto of Stone Bell Mountain has appeared similar statues in multiple times with the "Persian people" and the same "things" held by the statue, which means that the emergence of this "Persian people " statue is not optional, but on a certain basis.
What should be discussed is that if the statue of this type belongs to king of Lux, then not merely the grotto of Stone Bell Mountain, but the carvings and painting of tantric Buddhism sect in whole period of Nan Zhao Dali kingdom, statue of Lux king of peculiar honor and solitude is also extremely rare. If the statue is Brahman monk, it is also lacking in more powerful evidence to prove.
